Get involved! Visit our instrumental links to define your area of interest. Then contact the Minister of Instrumental Music, Matt Robb, at 903-525-1114 for further information.
Been a long time since you played? No problem! Many of our current members took several years off before they began to play with us. They will be more than happy to help you and encourage you. We offer open rehearsals in many of our groups so you can rehearse with us as often and for as long as you want before you begin to perform with us on a regular basis!
Becoming proficient again If you come to rehearsals regularly and are committed to practicing on your own, you can regain what skills you have lost in 3 months! That is a short time compared to the years of ministry and enjoyment you can experience by being a part of the Instrumental Ministry of Green Acres Baptist Church.
Instrument Accessibility We have access to many orchestral instruments, which we allow church members to check out. Contact the orchestra director for availability at 903-525-1114!
Music in the Old Testament It is evident that music was inseparable from Biblical life. In fact, there are many examples of music, which accompanied work, worship, merrymaking, and military activities (Genesis 31:27, Exodus 32:17-18, Num. 21:17, Judges 11:34-35, Isaiah 16:10, Jeremiah 48:33). Instances of music making are also connected with specific acts of God: the collapse of the walls of Jericho (Joshua 6:4-20), the enthronement of kings (1 Kings 1:39-40; 2 Kings 11:14; 2 Chronicles 13:14; 20:28), music for the court (2 Samuel 19:35, Ecclesiastes 2:8) and feasting (Isaiah 5:12; 24:8-9).
Mission Tour Fundraising We present an annual dinner theater, which includes a meal and a musical presentation. Each student who sells 10 tickets and is part of the presentation gets a portion of the proceeds. We also have a "sponsored" car wash in the spring and summer.
Student Music Tour Qualifications We have a system in which each student earns investment points. Points are earned by attending rehearsals, bonus rehearsals, worship services, local mission projects and other performances. Each student must earn at least 75% of the possible investment points to qualify for tour.
Kidz Praise Registration Every August, we send a mailout to all children enrolled in our Sunday School. If you do not receive a form, one may be requested from the Worship Ministry office or you may register the first time your child attends choir.
Special Events We do a Spring Program (March/April); "Big Band Night" (Spring); an "I Love America Rally (June/July); an Adult and a Children's Christmas Program (December). There is also a Children's Spring Program (May); Student Homecoming Concerts (March/July); "Come Blow Your Horn" (Fall); as well as other seasonal events throughout the year.
